Some of you have shared your surprise about my decision not to keep blogging here. Allow me to offer a few points on why I’ve come to the decision I have, and what the process will look like.
I’ve been thinking about this change for a while. And, it’s no one person in particular that’s led me to the choice to stop blogging at badchristian.com. Rather, I’ve just sort of ran out of things to say. Perhaps, over the past two or so years, I’ve said things too quickly. Slowing down would’ve stretched things out a bit…but, without any sort of time travel mechanism, I can’t change the way I wrote.
Also, I’d like to emphasize what I’ve been saying a little more clearly. I’m not going to be blogging HERE anymore. This is, of course, a much different thing than saying I am not going to blog anymore. In fact, as we speak (or as you read) there is another blog in existence, a team-written blog, featuring the ponderings of a quasi-badass son of a preacherman (read: me) and a beautiful young woman (read: my wife). Perhaps, one day, when we both become comfortable with the idea, we’ll let you know where that blog resides.
Another reason, I’m giving up the blog, here, is that I’d like to pursue writing in a bit more polished, and public, of a format. I’m going to try to get some stuff published in various places. A blog, while it can be a good place to flesh out ideas, can be a creative drain and a time sink, if your’e not careful. I’ve learned that the hard way. I’d much rather be working on articles, pieces for a magazine, or even a book.
Now, I’m also a self-absorbed and prosaic son-of-a-bitch. Thus, blogging really appealed to me. Due to this self-absorbed and prosaic tendency in myself, I’ve decided to do a little “outro” blogging. I’ll, hopefully, chat a bit about what I’ve learned about myself, Christianity, computer mediated communication, and the like. If that can be of any help to the blogging public, so be it. Mostly, it’ll be a good de-brief for me.
I don’t know how long that “outro” will take, but it’ll probably happen over the course of the early summer. If you’ve got any other questions, comments, criticisms, advice, or anything else for that matter…you know how to reach me!
Again, thanks for listening!

I guess this is a pre-lated goodbye: Here’s one reader who hopes to see you again somewhere over the internets. Sin boldly in the meantime!

I never liked this blog anyway…….
seriously though I’ll miss this little corner of the internet. I really enjoyed the way you challenged the status quo and said what felt right rather than what you were expected to agree with.
I’m certain the fall of the badchristian domain will not stop that.
thanks for all the time and effort spent so far. It meant a lot.

Have fun with the writing career. I intended to post a comment a few days ago when you were talking about the Zondervan eye-opener you had, but I forgot (blame adhd or personality or work stress or spring finally coming to California). But then seeing this posting, I really wanted to say something.
27 years ago, when dinosaurs ruled the earth, and before current Christianity was invented by Brian McLaren, I started getting paid for writing. I also was idealistic and hated the “industry” and all its permutations and evil dark money side. But Brandon, if you’re going to put stuff out there “in public”, then you are going to become part of the marketing side whether you like it or not. There are no other choices.
Winston Churchill once ridiculed someone who said they just liked to write for their own sake. “No one writes for their own sake. They write so others will see what makes up the thought patterns of their brain.” If Triple-x church gets paid for what they write, that does not diminish what they write or the “ministry” attached to it. If it is the only reason they minister or write, it will eventually die out for lack of inertia.

In the Desert of the Real, I cast my eyes toward the place where your tent stood, and I note its absence.
I hope you drop by again when you pass this way.
GodJourney and the wish for learning more follow you.

Brandon,
I wanted to break my silence (at your blog) long enough to tell you that you have made a difference in my life.
Though you may be unaware, it was your blog that gave me hope that all Christians could treat each other with respect and value one another’s opinions whether in agreement politically or theologically. This, combined with the tender gentleness of my friend Wildwest regarding the really important matter that we should all follow our own convictions opened my eyes to many things. For one thing, it has given me a certain tolerance for points of view which I do not understand and cannot embrace. Even though I cannot understand them and cannot embrace them I have realized that in my own quest to follow my own convictions it is not necessary for me to understand why others hold different convictions, convictions, in some cases, to which I am opposed. It is as Wildwest has taught me, we each must follow our own individual convictions in the direction that God’s Spirit leads us.
At any rate I wanted you to know that I so greatly enjoyed reading your thoughts. You’ve caused me to run the gamut of emotions, and on the other side of that, I believe I am a better person and a better Christian because of it. Isn’t that ironic? A blog named badchristian could make a better Christian out of a person?
Best of luck in everything you do.
Sincerely.
