the world of online poker can kiss my ass…

Posted in fun at 9:44 pm by

Well, I’ve been spending way too much time thinking about Texas Hold’em. I decided after the procurement of my new laptop, wireless highspeed internet, and the time to use them, that I would test my hand over at party poker.com.

Now, I had done this before. The difference being that I was on the play money tables. I always did quite well on the play money tables…well enough, in fact, so that last night in a moment of weakness I convinced Jen, my wife, that it would be okay if I played with fifty real dollars. I learned some things, quickly.

1. Idiots play at the free money tables.
2. Losing money at the play money tables is a quite forgettable experience…so much so that I forgot about how much money I had to lose(and then run back to the play money cage for more play money) in order to hit one really big payday.
3. Once people make their way to the real money tables, one can be certain that one of two things is true.
a. They’re idiots and they’re broke, or they soon will be.
b. They’re not idiots, and they are taking the idiots money from them.
4. There’s an idiot at every real money table. If you can’t pick them out, leave, cuz’ you’re him.
5. Rarely, if ever, was I able to pick out the idiot.

The good news is that my 50 dollars is now 57 dollars. Of course, at one point my fifty bucks was seventy four dollars. Just goes to show what two swift kicks in the head will do to a dutchman’s wallet, I suppose. And, that does include the 25 dollars of bonus money that I got just for playing 125 hands of poker. (A startup bonus code.) So, in actuality I’m really down about 18 dollars…all told, not a complete bust for a newbie.

A friend of mine (and his blog can be found here) actually had a good night at the tables around New Orleans. I blame him for inspiring me on this little foray into the debaucherous world of online gaming.

Once again, there’s no moral to this story. I hate morals.
